چکیده

Race Ug99 of Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici, recognized for possessing virulence to Sr31, was first reported in Uganda in 1999 (Pretorius et al., 2000). Based on the North American stem rust nomenclature system of 16 differential lines (Roelfs and Martens, 1988; Roelfs et al., 1993), Ug99 is identified as race TTKS (Wanyera et al., 2006). Isolates with virulence similar to Ug99 were identified in collections from Kenya and Ethiopia since 2005 and from Yemen since 2006. More recently, the race was confirmed to be present in Iran (www.fao.org/). Ug99 is projected to migrate to other major wheat growing regions in the Middle East, and south and west Asia following a pathway similar to the migration route of a Yr9-virulent race of stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis) (Singh et al., 2006). The present study reports virulence variation observed within the TTKS stem rust race group.

The emergence of Ug99 races of the stem rust fungus is a threat to world wheat production.

Race Ug99 of the fungus Puccinia graminis tritici that causes stem or black rust disease on wheat was first detected in Uganda in 1998. Seven races belonging to the Ug99 lineage are now known and have spread to various wheat-growing countries in the eastern African highlands, as well as Zimbabwe, South Africa, Sudan, Yemen, and Iran. Because of the susceptibility of 90% of the wheat varieties g...

شناسایی جدایه های Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici با بیماریزایی برای ژن مقاومت Sr31 در استان های غربی ایران

Stem or black rust of wheat, caused by Puccinia graminis Pers. f. sp. tritici Eriks. and Henn (Pgt), was the most feared and devastating disease of wheat at one time worldwide. The fear from stem rust was understandable because an apparently healthy looking crop about 3 weeks prior to harvest could reduce to a black tangle of broken stems and shriveled grain by harvest. The disease has been co...

Discovery of a Novel Stem Rust Resistance Allele in Durum Wheat that Exhibits Differential Reactions to Ug99 Isolates

Wheat stem rust, caused by Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici Eriks. & E. Henn, can incur yield losses in susceptible cultivars of durum wheat, Triticum turgidum ssp. durum (Desf.) Husnot. Although several durum cultivars possess the stem rust resistance gene Sr13, additional genes in durum wheat effective against emerging virulent races have not been described. Durum line 8155-B1 confers resista...

Isofemale Line Analysis of Meloidogyne incognita Virulence to Cowpea Resistance Gene Rk.

Isofemale lines (IFL) from single egg masses were studied for genetic variation in Meloidogyne incognita isolates avirulent and virulent to the resistance gene Rk in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata). In parental isolates cultured on susceptible and resistant cowpea, the virulent isolate contained 100% and the avirulent isolate 7% virulent lineages. Virulence was selected from the avirulent isolate wi...

Intraspecific phylogeny and lineage group identification based on the prfA virulence gene cluster of Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is a serious food-borne pathogen that can cause invasive disease in humans and other animals and has been the leading cause of food recalls due to microbiological concerns in recent years. In order to test hypotheses regarding L. monocytogenes lineage composition, evolution, ecology, and taxonomy, a robust intraspecific phylogeny was developed based on prfA virulence gene...
